What started out as a promising Sunday for Lando Norris did surely end in tears. After being on the money for almost the whole weekend, Norris’ surprise, but welcome podium bid got dismantled on the very first lap. What’s more? The Brit was left high and dry with damage on his car which meant he finished well outside the points, too. But the demise of the McLaren racing ace’s afternoon started with his coming together with an ex-McLaren legend.

Lewis Hamilton got off to a solid start when the lights went out. However, in turn one, Hamilton came face-to-face with Norris. What ensued was a tight jostling for position that ended with Norris’ front wing making contact with Hamilton’s rear end of the car. While Hamilton soldiered on to finish a fantastic second. Norris was left ruing what could have been as he limped home in 17th.

Norris is arguably one of the most revered drivers on the Formula 1 grid currently. Naturally, most of the fans were rooting for a solid podium for the Brit to add to his collection. That being said, to the dismay of the fans and Norris himself, he never really had a chance to post his lap 1 scuffle with the 7x champion.

After the recent upgrades, the pace of the McLaren seems to be good. Ailing, but good. But when you sustain such fundamental damage to the car, it is compromised from the very get-go. And this was the fate Norris was destined to suffer.

Norris had even cheekily warned Max Verstappen to look into his mirrors to see him zoom past him and demanded that he didn’t hold him back. Alas, it all went south for the Brit. As soon as this happened, fans rushed to the social networking site, Twitter, to share their reactions. One fan even commented, “I’m in Spain without the s.”
