Formula one conducted their biggest ever survey and fans were asked to vote to decide the most popular Formula One driver and Team. Nielsen and Motorsport Network conducted a huge survey in which fans from 187 countries took part. A whopping 167,302 responses are recorded and analyzed. The results were quite a surprise, and now F1 drivers are reacting to them–including McLaren prodigy Lando Norris.

Most Popular F1 Driver officially declared

2021 Title contender Verstappen was declared the most popular Formula One driver after he managed to sweep up 14.4% of the votes, however quite surprisingly his title rival Lewis Hamilton only managed to rank third with around 12.5% of the total votes.

The second position was claimed by one Lando Norris. The 21-year-old McLaren driver has helped F1 with its aim of reaching out to the audience. Lando, who calls himself a full-time streamer and part-time racer, was voted the most popular driver in the Under 24 category.

Lando played a huge role to keep F1 relevant during the times of the pandemic when there were no live sports to follow. He used to regularly stream on twitch and even convinced other fellow young drivers to join him. He was a part of the ‘Twitch Quartet’ consisting of him, Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Alex Albon.

He also started a YouTube channel called Quadrant with F1 YouTubers Aarava, Niran, and quite a few other people. So it’s pretty evident that he has made quite an impact on the younger audience of F1

Lando Norris reacts to his team being the most popular team in F1

In the teams’ category, it was McLaren who were voted the most popular, quite understandably so. The McLaren team consists of the two most charismatic drivers in the paddock, Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris. So, it’s no surprise that they received 29.5% of the votes.

Lando also commented on his team being the most popular team in F1, he said, “I’m happy for the team. I guess I’m a small part of that, both Daniel and myself. “Formula 1 is not just ‘can you do well on track?’ There’s a lot of other things.”

McLaren has truly proven how much they have improved by putting up a battle with Ferrari to come into the top 3 of the Constructors’ Championship Standings. But how will that battle end up? Will Ferrari take the crown or will McLaren give their fans a surprise? We are yet to see that!
