Lewis Hamilton Shows Support to His Extreme E Driver Cristina Gutierrez After Her Horrific Injury

Last year, Lewis Hamilton announced founding an Extreme E team, X44. Hamilton has drivers Cristina Gutierrez and Sebastien Loeb as a part of his team. Almost three weeks ago, Gutierrez competed in Rally Kazakstan as a part of the Red Bull Off-road Junior Team. She claimed victory along with her teammate Francois Cazalet. However, she suffered an enormous impact during the race, fractured two vertebrae, and crossed the finish line in great pain.

In a recent Instagram post, she updated her followers about her health. She wrote, “The treatment is going a lot of beach, relax and rest … and that’s what I’m going to do, a different summer but with the best medicine, the SUN.” Hamilton reposted this on his story with an uplifting “You got this.”

The 29-year-old driver will be off the tracks for two months because of her injury.

Hamilton created x44, named after to his racing number, to provide opportunities to drivers while highlighting the issues facing the planet.

He won’t be sitting behind the wheel because he is a part of F1, but he wishes to use his role as a founder to put his knowledge into practice and create a competitive team.

Who is Cristina Gutierrez?

Extreme E requires a team to be composed of a male and a female driver. Hamilton’s pick for the latter is the extremely talented Gutierrez. She has a lot of accomplishments to her name, including being the second woman to win a stage in the Dakar Rally. The dentist has been her nation’s off-road champion since 2012.

In December 2020, she was announced as a part of Hamilton’s team in Extreme E.

As the environmental crisis has become a growing issue, even F1 looks to being more sustainable. As he has no control over the progress made by the sport he’s a part of, Hamilton is putting his knowledge to practice elsewhere. Extreme E gives him the opportunity to do so.
