If you had to bestow a fashion crown upon any F1 driver, the first would be Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes (soon-to-be Ferrari) star is the very definition of glitz and glamor. His arrival looks into any F1 race weekend are no less than that of a supermodel at a fashion week. Having affiliated himself with luxury brands, Hamilton’s presence at shows around the globe is a staple. It is this power that also saw him turn heads recently in South Korea for an LVMH brand.

If you follow Hamilton or his fan pages online, you might’ve seen the F1 star exiting the Incheon airport in Korea yesterday. Donning a casual blue hoodie, very light faded denim jeans, white sneakers, and a blue scarf to top the look, the paparazzi couldn’t get enough. As if this casual look hadn’t floored fans, he upped the game by margins in his formal appearance for RIMOWA – a luxury baggage manufacturer acquired by LMVH for $15.8 Billion.

In 2023, Hamilton, along with soccer star Kylian Mbappé and Blackpink fame Rose, graced RIMOWA’s ad campaign. Titled ‘Never Still’, it highlighted the stories of these icons embracing the world around them as they traveled. As a 7-time F1 champion, Hamilton is more than accustomed to driving and commanding elite machines created by engineering geniuses. This too aligned perfectly with RIMOWA’s motto – “The art of engineering since 1898.”

Honoring this partnership, Hamilton graced the RIMOWA show in South Korea’s capital Seoul alongside the famous singer Rose. The event was organized to unveil the luxury brand’s ‘Mint & Papaya’ collection. Interestingly, the F1 star had revealed after the Japanese GP that he would be heading there for “work”. He even asked a Korean-speaking journalist to teach him the language and how to say “Hello” so that he wasn’t lost.

Witnessing his life up close as a fan is rather wonderful. His work ethic has enabled him to diversify his talents outside F1. But the fashionista that he is today wasn’t a part of him long ago. Let’s have a look at how it all began.

Lewis Hamilton’s tryst with fashion

Lewis Hamilton came from a very humble background. His parents got divorced when he was just 2 years old. As a result, his father had to work 4 jobs at one stage to keep his racing dream alive later in life. Motorsport and fighting to make his place was all Hamilton knew before he entered F1. But in his debut F1 year with McLaren in 2007, fashion entered his life.

He attended his first fashion show that year. “I come from a racing world where me and my dad were really the only people of color,” Hamilton told GQ. And then when I went to the fashion world, it was so mixed, so diverse. I loved it.”
