Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has revealed his benchmark for 2020. Verstappen had his best season in F1 last year but is hoping to better his performance for the upcoming season. The Dutch star has set a worst-case scenario for 2020, should Red Bull fail to be competitive.
Max Verstappen reveals the worst-case scenario for 2020.
Verstappen has asserted on multiple occasions, that his only goal in Formula one was to win World Championships. The Dutchman will be entering his 6th season in F1 in 2020 but is yet to capture the elusive title. However, age is no issue as Verstappen is only 22 years old and his best years may still lie ahead of him.

Despite Red Bull claiming 3 victories in 2019, the team failed to challenge Mercedes consistently throughout the season.

Ultimately, the Milton-Keynes outfit finished 3rd in the Constructors’ Standings. With Honda reportedly making good progress over winter testing, Red Bull will be keen to make the step up.
Verstappen has disclosed that – in the event of a worst-case scenario, he would still like to fight for the final podium spot.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Verstappen said: “Last year at some rounds we couldn’t really mount a fight but then you still need to collect the points as much as you can and maximize a lot.

“I hope from this year onwards we will always be fighting for a podium at least, worse-case scenario we are fighting for third, let’s say it like. I’m excited and looking forward to it.”
“As a team, we are targeting that, of course, we want to fight for the title and do well. Time will tell and at the moment it is difficult to say, but we are doing everything we can to try and step up.”
Max Verstappen also claimed that he wouldn’t be changing his approach for the upcoming season. Overdriving the car sometimes leads to unsavoury circumstances, which is counterproductive.

Verstappen also added that signing a long term deal with Red Bull was the right choice. The Dutchman stated that this provided closure and a sense of relief.
Red Bull will unveil its 2020 car on February 12, 2020. F1 winter testing will take place at the Catalunya circuit from February 19.
