Yesterday, Engine issues plagued the run of Mercedes F1 as Hamilton halted on the track during the 2nd day of the second pre-season testing. The team faced some power unit issues induced by oil pressure anomaly.

Hamilton started his run in the afternoon session at the Circuit de Catalunya and completed 14 laps before grinding to a halt out on the track.

After the session, Hamilton said, “Rather than looking at the negatives, we’ve discovered some things we need to work on. And we’ll keep pushing hard to resolve them and keep working away. I’m looking forward to being back in the car tomorrow and adding to the mileage we’ve already achieved”

Mercedes engines are usually very reliable but they seem to have some issues in 2020. The Mercedes engine previously failed twice in Williams F1 and now the factory team is facing similar issues.

The second pre-season test in Barcelona didn’t go very well for the Mercedes F1 team. First Bottas had a spin and went off on turn 5. Then Hamilton faced reliability issues and ended his run only after 14 laps.

Mercedes had to change the engine last night because there seems to be a bigger problem. A problem with the oil pressure caused the failure and it needs further inspection. That engine was sent for a deeper inspection in the factory before it can be used again in Melbourne.
