Although Mercedes won seven constructor’s championships on the trot, they endured several difficult races. One of those was the 2019 German Grand Prix, where Mercedes were celebrating their 125th year in motor sport.

While the build up to the weekend went well, Sunday’s race went terribly for the reigning world champions. In tricky weather conditions, Hamilton slid off the track and damaged his front wing. This forced him to come into the pits, where things only got worse. Since Mercedes’ pit crew weren’t ready, they forced Hamilton to undergo a pit stop lasting nearly a minute.
Meanwhile, Bottas slid off the track a few laps later to cap off one of the worst weekends for the Silver Arrows. While the incident is over two years old, Mercedes didn’t hold back in pulling their own leg. Along with a tweet showing their failure in Hockenheim, they shared a follow-up tweet, which read, “We looked good. But at what cost?”
