Mercedes F1 Mock Themselves With a Throwback to Introducing One-off Livery

Mercedes F1 found themselves in an intense battle with Red Bull throughout the course of the ongoing F1 season. While they look to secure an eighth consecutive world championship, they have also been quite quirky on social media.

From clever posts to witty banter, the Silver Arrows produced highly interactive content for fans to enjoy. Although they took subtle digs at their competitors, they didn’t hold back from making fun of themselves. Earlier today, they shared a tweet recalling their attempt at introducing a special one-off livery.

Although Mercedes won seven constructor’s championships on the trot, they endured several difficult races. One of those was the 2019 German Grand Prix, where Mercedes were celebrating their 125th year in motor sport.

Along with various activities, the men and women of the Silver Arrows sported traditional clothes to mark the special occasion. In addition, they also smeared a special one-off livery on their pair of F1 cars, driven by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

While the build up to the weekend went well, Sunday’s race went terribly for the reigning world champions. In tricky weather conditions, Hamilton slid off the track and damaged his front wing. This forced him to come into the pits, where things only got worse. Since Mercedes’ pit crew weren’t ready, they forced Hamilton to undergo a pit stop lasting nearly a minute.

Meanwhile, Bottas slid off the track a few laps later to cap off one of the worst weekends for the Silver Arrows. While the incident is over two years old, Mercedes didn’t hold back in pulling their own leg. Along with a tweet showing their failure in Hockenheim, they shared a follow-up tweet, which read“We looked good. But at what cost?”

The Silver Arrows lead Red Bull by 33 points in this year’s constructor’s championship

With seven races to go, Mercedes lead both the driver’s and constructor’s championships. While they lead Red Bull by 33 points in the constructor’s championship, Hamilton leads Max Verstappen by two points in the driver’s championship.
