Mercedes won their 7th consecutive Constructors’ championship this season. A 1-2 finish by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas at Imola secured their championship with 4 races still to go.
Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo won his second podium of the season driving for Renault. This spectacular finish marked the Australian’s has managed to find a podium twice in the last three races.
Both the teams were understandably proud of their respective achievements and expressed the same on Twitter. However, the fans were treated with some lovely banter as both teams’ social media departments found their creative sides.
Renault have certainly shown the most improvement since the beginning of this season. They managed to snatch Daniel Ricciardo from Red Bull at the end of 2018 season.
The 2019 season was not a great outing for the team as their best finish came in Italy with Ricciardo and Hulkenberg finishing P4 and P5, respectively.
Renault finished the season without any podiums with 91 points at P5 of the constructors’ championship, a 54 point deficit to McLaren at P4.
This season the team has managed to shine toward the end with 2 podiums in the last 3 races with 4 more races to go. After Daniel’s podium at Imola, the team took to Twitter to express their elation.
While Renault was celebrating its twin podium at P3, Mercedes was celebrating its 7th constructors’ title with the fans. At Renault’s Tweet, Mercedes decided to take a hilarious dig at Renault F1.
They posted a Tweet with two pictures together, in one Renault is celebrating their twin P3 finishes and another wherein Mercedes is celebrating their title, the caption read, “This is cute.”
Renault F1 team replied, “Very cute”. This obviously led the Formula 1 community on Twitter into a hysterical mood. After numerous comments and retweets, Mercedes continued the banter by commenting, “We genuinely think this is cute! Why do you all have to be so mean?”
Although Mercedes have won the constructors’ title, they will surely be motivated to ensure both their drivers finish at the top of drivers’ standings.
Meanwhile, Renault stand at P3 with just one point separating them from McLaren. They will try to make sure they build on this form till the end of this season and finish at P3 in the constructors’ championship.
