A huge day awaits Mick Schumacher on Friday at the Nurburgring. The expected F1 practice debut will see Mick drive the Alfa Romeo C39 in the first session.

He will not be alone, as fellow Ferrari academy driver Callum Ilott will also be there. He has been allotted the practice duties for driving the Haas VF-20.

But, owing to the fact that Mick will be driving in front of his home crowd, he will be the more excited one. After all, his father drove many a race at the special venue, and won a few as well.

“I have to see that I can collect a lot of data for the team. Since Formula 1 has not been at the Nürburgring for many years, this task is all the more important. The Alfa guys need all the data they can get.” (translated from Google Translate)

Mick is certainly right in this case. A track that has not featured an F1 race for seven years, will be a source of mystery until the teams take to the field.

Therefore, the first free practice session proves to be an important one for all teams. And Alfa Romeo can certainly get some assistance, to help meet their objectives.

And ex-Mercedes boss, Norbert Haug, believes that the Ferrari academy driver is ready to make the step up. He is quoted as saying, “He doesn’t flinch for a long time, he puts his opponents in order.”
