Red Bull ‘Planning’ Tsunoda for ’21 Alphatauri Lineup, Reveal Possible Options for Albon’s Replacement

Red Bull Racing’s lifeline, Dr. Helmut Marko, is almost certain of Yuki Tsunoda’s chances of making the Alpha Tauri team next season.

He has been putting in exceptional performances on the trot in the youth format of Formula 2. Having solidified his hold over P3 behind Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott, the youngster is definitely eligible for a super license. Therefore,  it seems like it’s Daniil Kvyat’s head on the chopping block.

The Red Bull administration were on the lookout f0r drivers for both the teams. Although Gasly and Verstappen have excelled in their respective cars, Albon and Kvyat have been struggling.

Had Albon raced the way he did at Mugello, Red Bull could have seriously troubled the German constructors. Nonetheless, the competition is all set to kick things up a notch, and wins and podiums for the Silver Arrows won’t be so easy come 2021.

So, Dr. Helmut Marko would hate to take a chance and will be unyielding in his hunt for an indomitable driver line-up. Although the format may overwhelm Tsunoda, he will most certainly be excited to finally clinch his super license.

At the moment we only have one driver who is a candidate for an F1 seat, that is Yuki Tsunoda. He is planned for AlphaTauri, he just needs to score the points for the super-licence,” Marko told Sky Germany, as quoted by PlanetF1.

Although they might have solved the puzzle for AlphaTauri, the hunt for Albon’s replacement endures. Honestly, the Anglo-Thai racer has shown little to no improvement in his racing bar his outing at Mugello.

His stint at Nurburgring was devastating for the crew, and to aggravate things further, he received heavy criticism from Nico Rosberg.

With Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg towering over all other options in the drivers’ market, Red Bull may not have much to worry about.

However, the dilemma of picking one driver is what troubles the Milton Keynes-based outfit. Dr. Helmut Marko is certain that he will have t0 choose the best from the two because that driver would be quintessential in unlocking Verstappen’s full potential.

If Albon can continue to develop and improve, then he is a candidate for our car for 2021. If Albon doesn’t live up to our expectations, we have to look outside our team.

“We are strong enough to handle all drivers. And then the two well-known candidates Perez and Hulkenberg come into the game,” declared Marko.

Red Bull are strong enough to mount a strong challenge to Mercedes. The Dutchman pulling the fastest lap at Nurburgring is still fresh in everyone’s memory.

Although it can be argued that his performance was a far cry from that of Lewis Hamilton, the question is for how long? The Brackley-based outfit’s dynastic reign over the sport may very well be breathing its last.
