Refusing to Give Up, Lewis Hamilton Lays Down Mercedes’ Path to Success: “Time Will Tell”

Mercedes‘ fans turned away from their screens as the team’s drivers helplessly watched the dominance of Red Bull unfold before their eyes. The start in Bahrain just ensured tough times for Lewis Hamilton and the team, as the car only appeared to be half-ready, with massive overhauls required to put it back on the front row of the grid. However, it’s Briton himself who’s laying the groundwork to help the team improve.
But as Dominic Toretto from the Fast and Furious franchise emphasizes, “family” is something that is important to Lewis Hamilton. He continues to inject a positive mindset at Mercedes. Fulfilling his roles as a senior driver, mentor, and helping hand in development, he has stepped up yet again to keep the team sane and show the path to a better season ahead for the team as it will strive to move from the fourth fastest car to possibly the second or third fastest.

“We know we are not where we need to be, and we know that this isn’t the right car. It is a difficult one. But I’ve just got to try and stay positive, keep my head up, and keep pushing the guys. Keep trying to be a positive light for them and get the best points I can,” Lewis was quoted by the Irish Sun as he tries to stay positive for the betterment of the team.
Being a realist and acknowledging the gaps in the development, he added, “We have just got a lot of work to do. We have just got to add downforce to the car, we’re lacking a lot of downforce. That is really where the time will come. As soon as we put more load on the rear and the front we’ll pick up that pace.”
Given that Mercedes knows its flaws, it needs to implement the changes quickly for the season before going back to the drawing board for next season.
Is the car of Lewis Hamilton set for a complete overhaul?
There have been persistent rumors that Mercedes has two designs in its bag. Yet, they decided to proceed with the controversial zeropod design for 2023, which came to life in 2022. However, things might change now.

Toto Wolff admitted that there is a need for major reform in the design, which might lead to a new car in itself for the next season. He said, “We gave it our best over the winter, and now we need to regroup, sit down with the engineers — there are no holy cows. And decide what development direction we want to pursue in order to win races. The moment comes when the stopwatch showed we are not good enough.”

If Mercedes does decide to make something new, that will take more time to materialize. So, this could be good news for the fans, but they shouldn’t be too hopeful for the next year either.
