Although six races remain this year, Ferrari look more focused on the 2022 F1 season. According to reports, the Italian outfit have made bold moves in their design of next year’s challenger.
The 2020 F1 season saw Ferrari endure one of the worst F1 seasons in their decorated history. Finishing sixth in the constructor’s championship, fans wondered where would the Italian outfit go from there.
However, they produced some excellent results in the ongoing season to compete for third place with McLaren. And with F1 ushering in a new era with a new set of technical regulations, the Maranello-based outfit have their eyes set on returning to the top of the sport.

Reports give an update on Ferrari’s progress towards 2022
Ahead of this year’s British Grand Prix, F1 revealed what every team’s car will look like from next season. This will need teams to work much harder on every aspect of the car, especially in terms of design.
In the past, the Maranello-based outfit struggled in designing an aerodynamically sound car. However, according to Italian journalist Giuliano Duchessa, Ferrari made progress on their nose and also completed drawings of various critical aspects of the car.

He said, “The front wing/nose is now defined and will be quite aggressive and significantly different from the one we have seen at Silverstone, we hear from a reliable source. As far as the drawings are concerned, those of the fuel tank, chassis and suspensions are now completed. It is always all relative, but the data coming out of the simulator satisfies us.”

Duchessa believes Ferrari don’t know if they can challenge for the title in 2022

Although Ferrari’s progress looks exciting, everyone starts from the same point next season. Hence, Duchessa admitted no one, not even Ferrari themselves, are aware of whether their efforts will pay off next year.
“Nobody knows if the Ferrari 674 [the name given to the project] will be competitive to win, not even Maranello knows it, but from the signals collected it seems we can expect something rather brave for 2022,” said Duchessa.

While time remains for the next season, Ferrari will look to end this season on a high. With Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz‘s cars using fresh power units, the last six races look likely to see a tough battle ensue between the Italian outfit and McLaren for third place.
