Romain Grosjean may not have a seat at next year’s F1 championship. The Haas driver has failed to impress during his time there, and team boss Guenther Steiner even mentioned that his P9 result at the Eifel GP may not save him.

However, it looks like the French driver has a backup plan in place. The entry of the French team Peugeot in the Endurance Racing series, joining the to-be-created ‘Le Mans Hypercar class,’ has excited Grosjean.

The Haas man definitely considers it a real possibility for his next career move. He said, “A French Constructor at one of the greatest races in the world, for sure it’s a nice project.

“We will get in touch sometime, as this is a project I’m hugely interested in for the future.”

However, the Peugeot Hypercar class project won’t be able to provide Grosjean with an immediate remedy. The reason being that the new category will only come into the game in 2022.

If Grosjean does indeed lose his seat with Haas, he may have to sit out an entire year of racing action before linking up with Peugeot. Then again, there is no guarantee that the team shares Grosjean’s sentiments.

Grosjean subtly hinted at knowing that his time in F1 may be up. Especially considering the kind of talent coming up from F2 and also the likes of Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg being available, Grosjean knows that it’s possibly only a matter of time before his seat is taken from him.

“I think that maths are quite easy. There aren’t many seats left. So in that aspect, there is little bit less speculation. And also looking at other options as well outside F1, to see what could really be tempting.”
