Of late, there has been a lot of noise with regards to the F1 drivers’ market. Kimi Raikkonen’s future has been a topic of discussion as well.
Comments from key personnel and drivers themselves have shown a hint of mystery. And with most teams not having confirmed their driver lineup for 2021, it only adds to the intrigue.
Haas and Alfa Romeo have been extremely active with their combination options. But if this latest news is to be believed, then one seat at Alfa Romeo is set to be taken.
According to a new report by outlet Blick, Kimi Raikkonen is slated to continue with Alfa Romeo for the 2021 season. The veteran driver had to reportedly communicate his decision by the 15th of September. And now, he has apparently confirmed his intention of staying with the Swiss team.
This probably means that Antonio Giovinazzi comes under even greater scrutiny. The rumors spreading through the paddock suggest that Mick Schumacher would be a superb choice to replace the Italian driver.
And his ‘baptism of fire’ in F1 could come sooner than expected. Come October 9th, the young Ferrari Academy driver could be racing in the Alfa Romeo car at Nurburgring.
The team might use the free practice sessions as an opportunity to test Mick Schumacher’s ability. And it being a home race for the Schumacher family, it could be the ideal introduction in F1 for Mick.
The Finn looked good in bits and pieces during both the free practice sessions in Russia. However, the C39 car was off-color with around 2 seconds from pack leader Valtteri Bottas. But it seems like Raikkonen is quietly confident about him finishing in the points this time around.
Finishing 9th in the Tuscan GP saw Raikkonen pick up his first points this season. He has mostly finished in the bottom half of the grid so far, with the car just not up to the mark. It will be interesting to see his approach at Sochi as he will hope to build on his momentum from the last race.
