Fernando Alonso is coming back from his retirement this year, driving for the newly rebranded Alpine. Previously, the Spaniard had raced for McLaren and retired at the end of 2018. He announced his comeback to the grid earlier last season and has been consistently involved with the team since.
Alonso will turn 40 this July. However, the Spanish driver’s physical trainer, Edoardo Bendinelli, stated that he is fit as ever, explaining the driver’s physical and motivational state before he makes his comeback.
“Fernando is like in the years before, very strong and motivated. I find him really good. He is super strong, practically recovers the same as in 2003, and has the same work capacity as always,” Edoardo pointed out.

Since leaving Formula 1 in 2018, Alonso has won the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours Le Mans. He also took part in the Indy 500 and the famous Dakar Rally. “He has more experience and is more complete,” claimed Edoardo.
Alonso won consecutive championships during his last stint with Renault in 2005 and 2006. He pointed out earlier that since his retirement in 2018, he has been craving the Formula 1 podium. Thus, he will give it his all to get up there again.

“Alonso was born to be on the podium. He has an extraordinary desire, as if it were the first time,” explained Fernando’s trainer.
Renault has pointed out that they have been working on a brand new 2021 engine for a long time now. The team also claimed three podiums last season and was one of the most improved constructors on the grid. Hopefully, Alpine and Alonso’s partnership will help the pair get back to their championship-winning days.
