Sergio Perez clinched his first podium finish at the Turkish Grand Prix. He came tantalizingly close to a podium finish in Germany, Russia and Imola. However, he put up a brilliant drive under difficult conditions and finished P2 on the podium.

Sergio Perez is losing his seat at Racing Point at the end of the season. He is being replaced by Sebastian Vettel in the rebranded Aston Martin team. However, even after his sensational performance in 2020, he remains out of a Formula 1 contract.

Sergio Perez revealed in an interview that he’s much more prepared to drive for a top Formula 1 team.

He claimed, “being seven years with a different team, being in the sport, the level of [maturity], the level of knowledge, experience. I’m such a different driver, definitely much more ready to make it work than last time.”

Sergio Perez states he is privileged to drive in Formula 1

Perez acknowledged the tough competition in Formula 1. He also described his situation as a part of Formula 1. He said, “I always knew this is how it is. I can call myself a privileged. I’ve had a great career, 10 years in Formula 1 up to now.

“If it was the case that I have to leave the sport I can leave with a lot of pride because I have delivered with the material I’ve had and not many people can have such a career. So we’ll see what happens but I’m in peace with myself,” he further added.

Perez regrets leaving the two races this season at Silverstone. He said, “Missing two races is not ideal in such a short championship. But overall I think I’m pleased especially with the level of consistency throughout the year.”

Sergio Perez delivered five top-5 finishes for Racing Point this season. The podium finish catapulted Perez into P4 on the driver standings. There are only four points separating the midfield. However, he is currently ‘the best of the rest’ even after missing two races.

Sergio Perez is being considered for the second Red Bull seat. Meanwhile, he will look to clinch some important points towards the end of this season. Hopefully, this is not the last we see of Sergio Perez driving in Formula 1.
