It’s called the biggest sporting event in the world for a reason. No matter where one is, what they are doing, or who they are with, everyone needs to watch it. We are, of course, talking about the FIFA World Cup. This captivating competition sucked Max Verstappen in as well, even if he was at the FIA Gala.

For non-soccer watchers, the FIFA World Cup tournament is currently in its final stages. Yesterday brought an end to the quarterfinals or the matches between the last eight of the tournament. However, Verstappen’s interest in the tournament might have ended after the second quarterfinal match.

Why? Well, it’s because the Dutch national soccer team crashed out of the tournament after losing against Argentina in penalties. A heartbreaking match for every Dutch supporter.

Witnessing this heartbreak remotely from a mobile screen was Max Verstappen. Why on a mobile screen, you might ask? Verstappen was facing the inconvenience of watching his team play on a small screen because of this F1 event. We are talking about the FIA Gala.

The Dutchman couldn’t miss the match and watched it on a mobile phone during the F1 award ceremony. Verstappen used Kelly Piquet’s bag she was carrying for the Gala for support and streamed the match on his mobile phone. Verstappen picked up the most important award of the night but, we have a feeling he would much rather be home watching his team play.

Even though the Dutchman picked up the championship trophy along with his Red Bull peers, he might’ve gone home disappointed. Especially after the Dutchman admitted he wanted to see his team win the FIFA World Cup.

A few months ago, the two Red Bull drivers sat down with LADBible to play a game of Agree or Disagree. During the game, Verstappen agreed with the statement “The Netherlands will win the 2022 FIFA World Cup”.

“I mean, you have to have the positive attitude going into the tournament. You have to believe that you can win it, otherwise what’s the point of even going?” He said, defending his stance.
