The 2023 Australian Grand Prix was an unforgettable affair. Even though, at the end of the day, it was the usual suspect, Max Verstappen who took away the silverware, the race in itself was filled with drama and enticing plotlines. One such storyline was the potential of a Spanish civil war erupting soon. After Kevin Magnussen DNFed, the race was brought to a halt with only a handful of laps to go. What ensued at the restart may have ruined Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso‘s relationship beyond repair.

At the restart, Sainz collided with Alonso, who was in third. Naturally, Alonso was miffed. However, post that incident,  Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly came together bringing out another red flag. Luckily for Alonso, he was reinstated to third, given that none of the cars had crossed the first sector before the red flag had come out. But for Sainz, he was penalized with a five-second time penalty that meant he finished 12th.
