The Brit took to social media to say, “It’s hard to believe that it has been nearly  9 years working with this incredible team. Times really does fly. I am happy and excited that we are going to continue our partnership for two more years. We’ve have accomplished so much together but we still have a lot to do, both off and on track.

“I am incurably proud and grateful of how Mercedes has supported me in my drive to improve diversity and equality in the sport. They have held themselves accountable and made important strides in creating a more diverse team and inclusive environment.

“Thank you to all the dedicated and talented individuals at Mercedes whose hard work makes it all possible and the Board for their continued trust in me. We are entering a new era of car but also have a sport that is uniting behind the positive change and I can’t wait to see what else we can achieve together,” he concluded.

Noticeably, he was also wearing a T-shirt that said ‘loyalty.’ Quite subtle, indeed!
