The greatest of athletes go through the biggest of heartbreaks. But when the story is flipped and the never-ending suffering follows the zenith, and the possibility of voluntary action is ceased, tears roll on. Such is the case for Michael Schumacher and his family. The 7-time World champion has been in a near-unresponsive condition for the last 10 years. But his accomplishments, built on the back of his 4-word philosophy, inspired his wife who has no choice but to be strong.
Only a year after his retirement in 2012, the German racing legend met with a skiing accident in a French Ski resort. A brutal head injury caused brain trauma, leading to a coma. Since then, he has not entirely recovered and the chances look very bleak, neuroscientists have said. In James Allen’s book ‘Michael Schumacher – The Edge of Greatness, he has stated how one needs to understand Schumacher and his philosophy to scrape his life surface. His wife, Corinna, in the face of adversity, has stayed strong using his mantra.
Allen wrote, “But what people find difficult when contemplating the phenomenon of Michael Schumacher is reaching an understanding of the character of the man himself. It doesn’t help that he is quite a reserved person, always wary of allowing the media and public too close. His sporting ethos was ‘never give anything away’ and that principle applied as much to his character as to competition on the race.”

Just 4 words that encapsulate his entire life – Schumacher never gave anything away on the racetrack and continues to fight for his life. So does his wife, Corinna, who dedicates most of her time to taking care of her resilient husband. Recently, Schumacher’s old friend and Italian racing driver has said how he reminisces about the good old days spent with him before fate changed the course of his life.

Michael Schumacher utterly dominated the sport of Formula 1 around the 2000s. 7 world championships and 91 race wins are a testament to his industrious and irrepressible character and work ethic. The Ferrari talisman made some enemies, some friends, and millions of admirers. One racer that has not only been his friend but also an admirer has vulnerably opened up on how cruel the ways of the universe can be.
Person, as well as a pilot, of very different character,” said Fisichella, as quoted by Corriere.it. “I had a great relationship with Schumi: we have a passion for football and at least 2-3 games of the national drivers always played. We shared track, football, dinners, karaoke: too bad it ended up that we know, fate is sometimes cruel.”
