In what could be an interesting turn in developments, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff might stay with the team after all. He might just stay as a proper team principal, instead of another role at the company.
This comes as a surprise, because the belief was that Wolff would take on a higher position within Mercedes. After the Emilia Romagna GP, he had even stated that he had a successor in mind.
But if one is to believe this piece of latest news, then Wolff might well retain the hot seat. And considering he has already led them to so much success, it will be an enormous boost for Mercedes.

Toto Wolff thinks he will stay for a “year or so” as team principal
Wolff is quoted by Motorsport-Total as saying, “I think I’ll stay for a year or so. I think the next two years will be really good years, with an interesting situation. As long as I enjoy it, I’ll do it.”
“It can of course also turn out like Niki did in Montreal 40 years ago: You wake up one day and think to yourself, now I’m too bored.” concluded Wolff in his comments. (translated via Google Translate)

The secret to Mercedes’ success has been their core dream team
It could then be a situation of not trying to fix something when it is not broken. Wolff, who has headed a successful Mercedes team ever since the turbo hybrid era came in, might have also realized this.
There is also the factor of working with incredibly talented drivers and people at the team. Both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, have been the key enforcers on the track which has led to this dominance.
