Fans Blast BCCI for Reappointing Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri has been re-appointed as Team India Head Coach by the Cricket Advisory Committee. The CAC is led by former India captain Kapil Dev, along with Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy. Shastri will be the head coach of the Indian team till November 24, 2021. However, his re-appointment left the social media divided.

Ravi Shastri has been with the team for a very long time. He was the Cricket Manager in 2007 in India’s tour of Bangladesh. After that, he had served as the Team Director (2014-2016) before taking up the Head Coach job in 2017. Since then, he has been serving as the head coach of India. His contract expired after the completion of the ICC World Cup 2019 but the BCCI handed him a 45-day extension alongside his support staff.

Along with Ravi Shastri, former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson, Australian Tom Moody and former India player Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput have been shortlisted for the interview. Under Shastri’s guidance, India reached the semifinals of the World Cup in 2015 and WT20 in 2016. Along with this, India won their maiden Test series win in Australia last year, and also reached the semifinals in the World Cup in England last month.

However, India captain Virat Kohli had also said that they would love to have Shastri as the Head Coach, saying “With Ravi bhai, all of us have a great camaraderie. Everyone in the team shares mutual respect and we have done well together as a group. We will be very happy if he is continuing as the coach.”

However, it will be interesting to see if there will be any changes to the support staff or not. Meanwhile, the responsibility has been handed over to the MSK Prasad-led senior selection committee to appointing the new assistant coaches.
