Former Blizzard CEO Starts New Video Game Company Dreamhaven

Former Blizzard CEO and co-founder, Mike Morhaime, has started his own video game company, Dreamhaven. He has teamed up with several industry veterans for this venture and has announced two game studios under the parent company. This is indeed great news for fans, as several veterans have joined forces to create something truly special.

The official Dreamhaven website made this announcement to the general public. Morhaime says, “I’ve always believed in the power of games to bring people together regardless of backgrounds or boundaries. With Dreamhaven, we look forward to creating and sharing new experiences with players everywhere.”

Mike was a part of the Activision-Blizzard ecosystem where he, along with his team, worked on several titles. But for reasons unknown, he decided to leave Activision and eventually started his own venture.

Former Blizzard CEO on Dreamhaven and his vision for the company

In an interview with GamesBeat, Morhaime said, “My wife Amy and I were working at Blizzard and left at the end of 2018,” “We didn’t have anything planned. What were going to unplug and take a bunch of time off to travel. We actually went to the HomeStory Cup in Germany for their StarCraft II tournament. We took our daughter.”

Dreamhaven currently houses two studios under it: Moonshot Games and Secret Door. Both are run by seasoned industry veterans who have enormous experience with multiple titles. Morhaime’s objective for Dreamhaven is absolutely clear- focus on quality.

Mike and his wife have funded the project out of their own pockets and will run the company together. The company is looking to hire more staff and currently houses 27 employees. Mike also mentioned that he is not looking to go and get funding anytime soon. He wants to retain control over the development in the initial stages, to ensure the quality remains intact.

This is definitely a great venture that will churn out amazing titles with time. Consequently, with so many industry veterans joining in, it is bound to be successful.
