Since  2014, the Formula E championship has won over numerous fans and has changed the motorsport scene. The all-electric series has has been a pioneer in innovation and in racing. However, it would be foolish to think that it stopped there, as the sport is still pushing the boundaries.

Recently, the sport took the covers off a sleek new car design, which will be unleash next season. Admittedly, it looks largely similar to the current Gen 2 car, but it is said to be its evolution.

What’s new about this Formula E car?

Christened as the Gen2 EVO, it boasts of a variety of structural changes. This includes a front wing, a shark fin, a curved rear wing and updated livery for the 2020-21 season.

Speaking about the new car, founder and CEO Alejandro Agag said, “The Gen2 already stands out as one of the most striking race cars to hit the track, and just as the name implies, the Gen2 EVO is another evolution of the distinctive design.”

Admittedly, the release of the new car comes midway through the “Gen2” era. Some interpretations give it an angular, but rounded look.

FIA President Jean Todt praised Formula E and its ‘progressive approach’. He believes that this led to numerous manfacturers being lured to the series. The Frenchman also spoke about the championship’s competitiveness, which is a major plus one in its book.

Compared to a series like Formula One, the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is practically an infant. However, in spite of being in its sixth season, the technology has evolved and is relevant to road-going cars.

As always, the chassis is the standard for all competing teams. However, they all have the freedom to design and develop their own electric components and parts for the power train.

The car will be officially unveiled on the FIA stand at the Geneva International Motor Show on March 3.
