Earlier today, Rich Energy Haas [https://www.essentiallysports.com/category/f1/haas/] became the first team to take the wraps off their 2019 car. The big reveal displayed a stunning black and gold livery that greatly resembled the Lotus F1 car. However, the Lotus was not the only other team that the Rich Energy Haas was compared with. Many saw an uncanny resemblance with Formula E team, DS Techeetah [https://www.dstecheetah.com/]. The defending Formula E champions also run a similar livery. This season, Techeetah had more gold than black, but previous editions had it the other way round. Interestingly, many also felt that Haas’ livery looked similar to an IndyCAR team’s livery, coincidentally running black and gold. The Formula One World Championship first started back in 1950. The very first F1 champion was Italy's Guiseppe Farina who raced for Alfa Romeo.

The sport has had 33 different champions in its history and a few of them are multiple championship winners. However, <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/category/f1/mercedes">Mercedes</a> driver <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/lewis-hamilton/">Lewis Hamilton</a> will be eager to overhaul that. Hamilton currently holds 6 World Championships and stands on the cusp of equalling Michael Schumacher's record at the end of the season.

Hamilton and Mercedes are the defending Champions with the pair's dominance unlikely to end anytime soon.

For a long time, Bernie Ecclestone was the F1 supremo, having founded the Formula One Group. He?spent 40 years as chief executive of the company after gaining control of the commercial rights.

But in 2017, he stepped down and ownership was handed to Liberty Media who have been taking care of F1 since then. To herald their control, they even changed the F1 logo.

Chase Carey was the first F1 CEO in the 'liberty era' of F1 and will be stepping down at the end of the year. Former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali will succeed the American in 2021.

The Haas F1 team is one of the newer kids on the block. They joined Formula One in 2016 with Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez as their drivers.

Since they are one of the newer teams, there is no real history to speak of. However, the team rose from the ashes of a failed bid to get a US F1 team in 2010. It bears no relation to the Haas Lola team of the 1985-86 season.

When Marussia collapsed in 2014, Haas bought their factory to use as a base of operations.

However, they were unlucky to have pitstop mishaps in the opening races squander their chances. Later on, rivals, Renault got stronger and more consistent. In the end, they had to settle for 5th in the championship.

It is also interesting to note that the team were involved in a controversy regarding their partnership with Ferrari. Many teams were under the impression that they had a significant advantage. It didn't help matters when claims were made that their 2018 car mostly resembled the Ferrari's 2017 model.
