Holding higher ground is the best strategy in any shooting game. The importance of higher ground has only increased with the introduction of battle royale games. While players can just camp on high hills and buildings in games like PUBG and Warzone, things are not so straightforward in Fortnite.

The concept of building structures has taken BR gameplay to a whole new level. The gunfights and 1v1 situations have become much more dynamic. However, this also makes it extremely difficult for players to take the higher ground in gunfights. Players can often build on top of others and avoid shots. They also get a clear view of everyone on the map and so can conveniently shoot at them.

ProGuides Fortnite Tips, Tricks and Guides is a YouTube channel that makes videos to teach tips and tricks for various games. One of their recent videos shows how players can easily perform high ground retakes in Fortnite.

Easy to difficult, all the high ground retakes you can perform in Fortnite

Starting off with the easiest retake, players can try out the ‘Double Ramp Upwards’ retake. All one has to do is begin with a ramp under them. Firstly, they have to build a wall in the direction from where opponents are shooting. Next, they have to put another wall above the previous one and build a ramp on top of them.

This would also help them avoid shots from anyone who currently has the higher ground. Finally, they need to put a wall in front of them and do a quick side edit so that they can continue the process.

Players will have to repeat this over and over again till they gain enough height. They can also randomly change directions to confuse their enemies and put cones on top to avoid anyone close to them. The Double Ramp Upwards is one of the most common methods for a high ground retake in Fortnite.

The next retake has a couple of variations. The pioneer behind it was professional Fortnite player FaZe Dubs. The ‘Double Edit Ramp’ gets a bit more difficult since it relies heavily on precision and timing. Moreover, players also need to keep their jump momentum in mind while doing this retake due to the number of side jumps it involves.

The initial steps are similar to the Double Ramp Upwards retake. However, instead of walls, players need to place cones overhead. This allows them to easily change directions by editing the cone and building in different directions. Since players will need to perform side jumps while changing directions, they need to have enough momentum. This confuses the opponent while also protecting players.

Finally, the last and the most difficult high ground retakes are the ‘Side Jump Retakes’. This is a combination of all the previous techniques along with a lot more side jumps. Players need to practice infinite side jumps to perform this retake. It ensures cover from all sides and gives players an element of surprise against their opponent.

While these retakes might sound very technical and complicated, players can easily get the hang of these after some practice. Learn them and show your building skills off to get that Victory Royale the next time you are in a game of Fortnite.
