It is official: Naughty Dog and Sony have decided to put the Last of Us online game to rest. They took this decision after teasing fans with information about this game for a very long time. As the third original entry in the popular award-winning franchise, this game really had many fans hyped for it. But it appears Naughty Dog couldn’t put together a satisfying product.

And no matter how bad people say its development period went, one thing is for sure—Sony wanted this game to be a hardcore live-service title. They made sure it met those requirements by asking Destiny 2 creator Bungie to give feedback on it. Now, the game’s recently leaked screenshot suggests they really made a huge impact on it!

Destiny 2 is a trendy live service title. When Sony purchased its developer, Bungie, they suggested the purchase was to help Sony with its live service push. They were planning a bunch of live service games and wanted Bungie to head this effort. Thanks to this initiation, Bungie also got a look at Naughty Dog’s live service title. And they did not have anything positive to say about it.

It has been suggested that they found out the game did not have the addictive quality of other Live Service titles. This implies that they believed players would not be enticed to come back to this game as often as they do for other such titles. Hence, a bunch of changes were proposed. And from the looks of the leaked screenshot of a battle pass tab, it appears that Naughty Dog worked on making this game just as they were asked to.

Yet, after hyping it up for a very long period of time, they shockingly had to announce its cancellation quite abruptly. Mere weeks after its director assured fans that the project was going fine. Battle pass has become the norm amongst live service titles nowadays. Players complete certain actions to unlock various levels in a battle pass and unlock various rewards.

Battle passes are usually designed to make sure players are consistently coming back to a game in order to unlock every level in it and get all the rewards. Besides this, the game’s menu looks like your usual Last of Us fare. A minimalist menu. It has a lobby, study, bunk, battle pass, and store.

The lobby is simply the option that allows players to start matches; the study might be a place where players go to see their items and such; bunk might be the hub; battle pass is pretty self-explanatory; and the store might be for purchasing premium items. Besides these items, the usual in-game currency and options tabs are visible. Too bad fans would never find out what that currency was all about.
