The match between the Gujarat Lions and the Delhi Daredevils saw some long existing IPL records being broken. The Lions set a target of 209 for the Daredevils after heroic performances from Raina and Dinesh Karthik in the first innings. In response, the Delhi team chased the target in just 17.3 overs at the loss of 3 wickets.
The Delhi innings comprised of valiant shots from Sanju Samson and Rishab Pant. The young pair put up 143 for the second wicket which is the highest for them for any wicket this season. Overall it was the fourth highest partnership for the Delhi team in all seasons. The partnership stabilised the Delhi Innings after the early loss of Nair.
Rishab Pant bettered his highest T20 score by hitting 97 off just 43 deliveries. His innings was studded with 6 fours and 9 sixes. Unfortunately, he could not complete his century when he edged a Basil Thampi delivery to Dinesh Karthik. The 19-year-old has shown extreme potential as the emerging player for this edition. Sanju Samson decided to take only the aerial path as he scored 61 off 31 with 7 sixes and no fours.

The highest chase was of the Rajasthan Royals in the first edition of IPL against the Deccan Chargers. The Chargers had set a total of 214 over the likes of Andrew Symonds who scored 117 with a strike rate of 220. The Royals in return chased the total with the determination of Graeme Smith and Yusuf Pathan who scored a fifty each.
