Is Tiger Woods skipping the 2023 U.S. Open?

The fifteen-time major championship winner made his celebrated comeback at the Genesis Invitational, where he carded an under-par 283. The event set him up for the season-opening Masters Tournament, where Woods enthralled the crowd with his impressive performance.

However, the dream of a 16th major championship was cut short after the 47-year-old withdrew from the event. A severe pain in the ankle left Woods limping for the majority of his second round. Despite making a record-extending cut, the golfer had to call it a day at Augusta National.

The golf icon immediately underwent fusion surgery to negate the growing pain. It came with its own consequences: he failed to take part in the PGA Championship. However, it looks like the injury will linger longer than expected, as various media outlets revealed that Woods was ready to skip the U.S. Open to focus on his recovery.

The news will come as a major blow to Woods’ legion of fans. But given his extended recuperation, when will the golf legend get back in action?

When will Woods make his comeback?

With the majority of Woods’ plans already off the list, there remains only a single major championship. Considered one of the oldest and the most prestigious golf tournament in the whole of Great Britain, the 47-year-old would be looking to return back to full fitness before the competition commences.

However, the 82-time PGA Tour winner knows well that he needs match practice before touching down at the Royal Liverpool Golf Course. In all probability, if Woods is deemed fit enough to play the Open Championship, he should be seen at the preceding Scottish Open, which will be played a week before the major.
