LIV Golf is unquestionably aiming to achieve more records in its brief history. The league and Greg Norman are constantly working to change how the world looks at golf and modernize the sport. And with that idea, and with its whopping purses and new format, the Saudi-funded league has attracted a lot of PGA Tour veterans over the course of its two years of existence.

But the golf world hasn’t been kind to those who’ve jumped ship. Fans and critics alike attributed their departure from the PGA Tour to their avariciousness. However, numerous golfers have come forward over time and explained their side, which quite often had nothing to do with the money. And at LIV’s current event in Tulsa, another defector has joined his vocal colleagues, as he discusses his decision to join the Saudi-funded league after spending 23 years on the PGA Tour!

In July 2022, Charles Howell III transferred to LIV Golf after spending 23 years on the PGA Tour. In Mexico in 2023, the American professional golfer made his LIV Golf debut. Howell has created a lot of possibilities for himself since winning the LIV Golf Mayakoba as a member of Bryson DeChambeau‘s Crushers GC squad in the 2023 season opening. Chucky Three Sticks, though, has always been criticized for joining the competing league after quitting the PGA Tour. And after all these months, he finally opened up about his move at LIV’s Tulsa event this week!

Howell’s LIV team, Crushers GC, recently took to Instagram and posted a video. The video involved the 43-year-old talking in his pre-match interview about his reasons for joining the Saudi-funded league. While talking about his tour-changing decision, the LIV star said, “I spent 23 years on the PGA Tour. I feel rejuvenated to come out here; it’s a bit of a new life and a second wind. Being around all the young guys pushes me.”

This interview has confirmed that Howell’s choice to join LIV was not motivated by money but instead by the change the league promises. Like many of his colleagues, he too has now shut down the money-grabbing claims against him by the public and voiced his support and excitement for the change the new series will bring.

Howell turned professional in 2000, and that same year, he joined the PGA Tour. The 43-year-old’s career started off strong, with him winning the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award in 2001. The following year, he went on to win his first PGA Tour event, the Michelob Championship. He followed that up with a win five years later, at the Nissan Open in 2007. Howell’s next and final win, however, came more than a decade later, at the 2019 RSM Classic.

Throughout his career, Chucky Three Sticks was a consistent performer on the PGA Tour. He has recorded 98 top-10 finishes and earned more than $40 million in his career on the Tour. At the major championships too, he hasn’t slacked, with his best finish coming at the 2004 Masters, when he tied for 13.
