Tiger Woods never ceases to amaze us. Then again, he’s a legend for a reason, right? However, among the many moments from his illustrious career that stand out, he certainly outperformed himself at an iconic one. Notably, it is the 2019 Zozo Championship, which is more commonly known as his 82nd PGA tour win.
Woods’ career was at its lowest as he was experiencing a five-year drought then, since his victory at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in 2013. His 80th and 81st victories came after he underwent operations on his back, and spent long durations in recovery.

He entered the inaugural edition of the Zozo championship, probably not expecting much. Moreover, months earlier, he had limped out of FedEx Cup playoff and had undergone surgery thereafter. Hence, his chances here were bleak. However, Woods amazed everyone with his fabulous victory.

Tiger Woods is fortunate for his return to golf
Woods won with a 19-under score and a 3 stroke win over local favorite Hideki Matsuyama. He also beat Rory McIlroy, who was ranked number 2 at that time. In a post-win interview, a reporter asked him, “Do victories like this, are they a little sweeter at this point in your career?”

Woods, who was also in awe of his achievement, said, “There’s no doubt. I mean, cause there was a point where I didn’t know if I would ever play again. I was just hoping to be able to walk normal again. So to be able to go through all that to get to where I’m at now is- I’m very appreciative.”

Reflecting on some of the darkest times of his career, he said, “I know how it feels to have this game, what I felt like, taken away from me. Where I couldn’t participate in the way that I wanted to. I’m just so happy and so fortunate to be able to have this opportunity again.”
