Bernhard Langer Shares Tragic News Shortly After Champions Tour Award Ceremony

Bernhard Langer is probably one of the best golfers of all time with two Masters tournament wins. He has played on the PGA Tour as well as on the European Tour. He plays on the PGA Tour of Champions and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Bernhard is set to tee off at the Mitsubishi Electric and spoke to the media about the sad demise of his coach.

Langer is 67 years old and still manages to strike the golf ball purely. The German is a 42 times winner on the PGA Tour of Champions. He also is the 2021 PGA Tour of Champions player of the year. Bernhard looks to open his 2022 campaign with a win at the beautiful Hualalai Golf Club in Hawaii.

The season opener starts on January 20th and Langer spoke to the media after his practice round about the passing away of his long-term coach. Willy Hoffman who was Langer’s coach for 45 years passed earlier due to a stroke. Bernhard said, “My coach of golf coach for 45 years, Willy Hoffman from Germany had just passed away. Yesterday I got the news, so very sad. We were close friends and just saw him in December when I was actually November when I was over in Germany getting some treatment I visited him and he didn’t seem all that bad.”

Bernhard Langer Suffers an Unfortunate Situation at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship

He added, “He had a stroke a year and a half ago and but he seemed to do reasonably well in any another stroke three or four days ago and didn’t survive it. So my, you know, hearts go out to the family and I suddenly will miss him. It’s been a dear friend and supporter of me for many, many years.”

PGA Tour of Champions season opener

The 2022 PGA Tour of Champions kicks off at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii with some of the biggest names competing. The names include Tom Watson as well as Darren Clarke. The players will look to get their 2022 season off to a quick start with the win. The total prize- money for the tournament is $ 2 million.
