Michelle Wie West stepped out of active golf to concentrate on other things, but she hasn’t bid farewell to her favorite sport. An advocate of women’s golf, West has always been outspoken in her thoughts on the development of women’s golf.

As one of the best LGPA players, Michelle has inspired the younger generation to follow in her footsteps and make even bigger achievements. West returns back to the golf course this week for Mizuho Americas Open as its host. She will not be participating in the game but will be a constant source of guidance and support for the younger players.

Days before the opening of the fun-filled event, West spoke about how after retirement, she gets the time to do things she is very passionate about and how the Mizuho Open will contribute to the development of women’s golf. At the presser held at Liberty National Golf Club, New Jersey, ahead of the tournament, West said –

It’s honestly so much fun. Since I stepped away from playing, I’ve really got to spend the time that I have really doing things I’m passionate about. I’m really passionate about the LPGA. Really passionate about making golf a better place for everyone.

Mizuho Americas Open’s big step for female golfers

Fully embracing its purpose of developing new standards, Mizuho is providing the players with complimentary lodging at the Conrad New York Downtown. Appreciating this initiative of Mizuho, West said – “I know that may not seem like a big deal to a lot of people, but for female athletes like myself, it’s a huge deal. The amount of money that we invest every single week is a lot, and I think this week it just eases it a little bit for the players. The players are being treated how they always should be, and hopefully, we’ll create a ripple effect for other events.”

Just like the Aramco Series, this new LGPA Tournament is also aiming for the upliftment of women in Golf. The players will be teeing it up in New Jersey from May 31st with the tournament hosting its final round on 4th June 2023.
