The vice-captains of the European Ryder Cup team have voiced their disappointment over the exclusion of a deserving player. In recent a conversation, the team’s lead advisors expressed their sympathy for the overlooked golfer.

Even with his noteworthy track record, he couldn’t make it to the squad. His non-inclusion in the team’s wildcard selections stood out as several other players, both veterans and newcomers, were preferred over this 30-year-old talent.

Thomas Bjorn and Nicolas Colsaerts, among five vice-captains for the European Ryder Cup team, expressed deep regret over the omission of Adrian Meronk. While chatting with bunkered.co.uk, Luke Donald’s deputies, Bjorn and Colsaerts, sympathized with Meronk. Despite his impressive performance, he’s now seen as Europe’s unfortunate “13th man.

In line with Bjorn, Colsaerts emphasized that team selections aren’t purely based on current performance. Factors like team compatibility and collective spirit also play a role. Commenting on Meronk’s omission, he said, “We all felt really bad for him.” Meronk’s absence from Donald’s six wildcard picks was a massive talking point. Nicolai Hojgaard, Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, and Sepp Straka were chosen over the promising golfer.

In a stunning performance, Meronk clinched the Italian Open earlier in the year at the same venue where the Ryder Cup will be held later this month. The three-time DP World Tour champion was understandably taken aback and upset by the decision. He admitted he was “shocked and angry”. Nonetheless, he’s using this setback as motivation for his future tournaments. Colsaerts said, “It was very difficult and all of us felt really sick to the stomach for him because we knew he played well.”

Speaking about the situation, Bjorn, who was Europe’s captain in their 2018 victory, mentioned at Wentworth, “We have the picks to make the right team but there’s not one person in golf who doesn’t feel for Adrian Meronk.”

Some European fans raised eyebrows over Shane Lowry’s inclusion, considering his performances weren’t particularly impressive. However, Bjorn defended the choice by recalling his controversial pick in 2018. He is confident in Lowry’s skills, and he believes just like Sergio Garcia in 2018, Lowry can make a substantial impact on the team.
