It has been a hot couple of days since the US Open was concluded and the golf world found a new major champion, Wyndham Clark. When the tournament began, not many expected him to emerge as the winner, but defying all the odds, he did! Now the golf pro is competing at the Travelers Championship, and he was grouped with Justin Thomas and Max Homa, both of whom did not make the cut at the US Open.

The three not only put on a show for their fans with their incredible skill but also with their hilarious banter during the opening round on Thursday. They even gave rise to a viral moment on Twitter following the round, wherein JT blasted Clark with abuse on the course!

The aforementioned trio hit their tee shots in a similar spot on the par-4 12th hole. Thomas played first and was 66 yards out in the rough. He wedged the ball 10 feet below the hole. Clark was next, but before he hit, he needed Thomas to mark his ball, just in case.

The former number 1 responded, “Guy wins one f—— U.S. Open, and I got to mark it from 80 yards?” The golfer’s response did not sit well with the fans, and he was called out for it. But later, on Twitter, he clarified that he was just poking the lone major champion as a friend, and he wanted Clark to hear that. Just poking fun at a friend… we had a blast today. I wanted him to hear that.”

The Denver-born golfer then tweeted online, continuing the fun banter, and said, “They honestly should be mad, I had you mark it and hit it to 30 feet.” The duo’s jab at each other shows the other side of golf, wherein golfers engage in off-the-court friendship with each other, and offers fans a glimpse of it.

The two-time major champ did face some backlash for his comments against the 2023 US Open winner, but some fans understood that it was nothing serious. Clark’s response quickly garnered a lot of attention from the fans.
