Fearing Exclusion From Majors, Patrick Reed Makes Last-Ditch Plea for Exemptions: ‘Out of My Hands’
It appears Patrick Reed has made a desperate appeal of sorts! Fascinatingly, the golfer hasn’t missed a major championship since he first became eligible for them at the Masters tournament, back in 2014. However, the upcoming PGA Championship, set to take place in May, hasn’t sent out an invitation to the golfer yet, putting his streak on the line. Even so, the LIV golfer was spotted expressing hope for getting an invitation regardless.
Reed was asked about the same in an interview after the Saturday round of play at the Masters. Meanwhile, he mentioned how there’s only one thing he can focus on at the moment. Elaborating on this, he admitted, “That’s out of my hands. All I can focus on is playing good golf. Depending on what happens tomorrow will kind of depend on what’s going on forward,” while alluding to the major invite.
Also, the 33-year-old highlighted how LIV golfers going down the world rankings is not because they are bad at the game. Instead, he attributed it to the refusal of the body to award them points; “I definitely believe some of the guys that aren’t in that have been a part of LIV that have just kind of free-falled down the world ranking system isn’t because it’s an accurate reflection of where they are in the world, it’s just we don’t have the opportunity to get the world ranking points.” But there’s more. Back in March, Greg Norman, the CEO of LIV Golf, withdrew his application for OWGR eligibility as well, citing its unwillingness to work with the league. Thus, it appears the LIV golfers, including Reed, won’t be able to get any points anytime soon.

Besides, Patrick Reed conveyed his desire for the upcoming majors to look beyond the OWGR, which does not give proper representation to LIV Golf. Additionally, expressing his hope, the current world No. 112 said, “Hopefully the PGA and the U.S. Open and The Open Championship take a look at things like that and take consideration on who they’re deciding to give exemptions to.”
Well, since the PGA Championship has decided not to give the professional an invite till this moment, then he can only rely on his performances going forward to bag himself one. Therefore, his best chance remains tomorrow at Augusta, where he has to propel past the athletes from his current T16 position to the top of the leaderboard.

Patrick Reed’s performance at the 2024 Masters
Looking back at the first three days of the 88th Masters, the American Pro was able to register a score of 1-over par with the help of the figures ( 74-70-73) he put up during the same. Consequently, the 2018 Masters champ was able to place at T16 while being tied with three others, including the likes of Chris Kirk, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Matthieu Pavon.
Meanwhile, the professional made 10 birdies in total during his play at Augusta in the first three days. Fascinatingly, out of those, four came on Friday and three on Saturday. What’s more, he also dished out a total of nine bogeys and a single double bogey, the last of which came at the par-4, Holly (No. 18), on Thursday.

Interestingly, he does have a good chance of winning the ongoing major championship if he manages to rake in a scintillating final round at the Augusta National. Accordingly, he would also be able to receive a ticket to the next major, which is the 2024 PGA Championship.
