LPGA Tour Legend Conferred With Lifetime Achievement Award

LPGA Tour star Catriona Matthew was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the recently held World Golf Awards for her glamorous career.

Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club hosted the eighth edition of the event, making this the second edition hosted in UAE. Held on Wednesday, it also included the World Golf Awards Classic Golf Tournament. Presented by Saudi Golf, they gave more than 350 prestigious and certified awards.

Catriona Matthew of the LPGA Tour bags the lifetime achievement award

Matthew is a Scottish professional golfer who plays on the Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour. She has represented Team Europe a staggering nine times in the Solheim Cup. Moreover, she was the non-playing captain in 2019 and 2021 and led the team to a victory. Winner of the Women’s British Open in 2009, her glittering career boasts of 4 LPGA Tour titles and 6 LET titles.

Unfortunately, the 52-year-old could not attend the event. However, in a video message, she said, “Thank you to the World Golf Awards for this fantastic award that I’m receiving for Lifetime Achievement.”

Undoubtedly ecstatic, she recounted the highlights of her career. “I’ve been very fortunate in my career and lifetime to be able to travel to many places and play golf all around the world, with Solheim probably being the highlight of my career having played in nine and captaining the last two victories at Gleneagles and in Inverness a few weeks ago,” she said.

She added, “Another highlight is winning the Women’s British Open in 2009, just eleven weeks after giving birth to my second daughter Sophie. When I look back on evenings like this and think about my career, I realise how much I’ve achieved in golf.”

What other awards did they give out?

Henrik Stenson, designer of the stunning Österåker Golf Club in Sweden, was named the Golf Course Designer of the Year. Titleist won the World’s Best Golf Club Brand 2021. Moreover, World’s Best Golf TV Channel 2021 was awarded to NBC Golf Channel. And finally, Augusta National Golf Club bagged the title for North America’s Best Golf Course.
