However, many stars were asked about the team they are rooting for. Different golfers had different choices, some supporting their national team, while others chose others as their favorite. Let’s take a look at who picked who.

LIV Golf stars pick their World Cup favorites

The first person to be asked to pick a team was the two-time PGA Tour winner Lee Westwood. Being an English, it was quite apparent he would pick the Three Lions. However, next was the Chilean Joaquin Niemann. Though the country of Chile had a decent squad in qualifiers, they failed to make it to the grandest stage of all after failing to finish in the top-5 of their table.

Since his national team isn’t in the World Cup, Niemann picked the defending Champions France as his favorite. Up next was Austrian Bernd Wiesenberger, whose national team too failed to qualify for the World Cup. He picked Lionel Messi’s Argentina to claim the World Cup in Qatar.

Wiesenberger also took a jab at the English squad by sarcastically saying, “England may get out of the group stage.” Later, the other English star Sam Horsfield chose his national team to be the favorites in Qatar.

England, of course. Why not,” said Horsfield. In the end, Japanese star Hideto Tanihara chooses the 2010 World Cup winner Spain, as his favorite to win the ongoing World Cup. Since the question wasn’t asked to any American golfer, no player chose the United States Soccer team as their favorite to win the World Cup.

With a month filled with intriguing and relentless competition in Qatar, fans are in for a treat. Moreover, reports suggest this could possibly be the final World Cup for legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Undoubtedly, the tournament won’t disappoint in providing memorable and historical moments.
