North Carolina is not the only host of the PGA Tour this week. The neighboring state of South Carolina is playing host to an additional event, the Myrtle Beach Classic. The field is larger and includes one YouTuber as well. But Myrtle Beach is no signature event, so the purse is less than one-third of the $20 million reserved for the Wells Fargo Championship.

The Myrtle Beach field includes PGA Tour champions like Daniel Berger, Joel Dahmen, J.J. Spaun, Eric Van Rooyen, and others. Ryan Fox (OWGR 61) is the highest-ranked player in the field. Six-figure paychecks await everyone inside the top eleven, but it will depend on how many players tie for each spot. Here is the full breakdown of the purse.

Golfers at the Myrtle Beach Classic are playing for $4 million on offer. It’s just $400,000 more than what Xander Schauffele would get if he could hold onto his 5-shot lead at Quail Hollow. The winner of the Dunes Golf and Beach Club event will receive a $720,000 paycheck. Here is the full purse size breakdown.

Aside from the hefty paycheck, 300 FedEx Cup points are also on offer. OWGR has awarded a 147.37 field rating to the Dunes Club event. The top player will earn 25.34 points, compared to the projected 60.90 points reserved for the Wells Fargo Championship winner. But more than the prize money and points, the Myrtle Beach Classic is garnering headlines for other key reasons.

What is so special about the additional event?

The Myrtle Beach Classic offered popular YouTubers a chance to earn a spot in the final match. But Korn Ferry Tour veteran Matt Atkins defeated YouTuber George Bryan IV in a playoff. Regardless, Bryan received a sponsor exemption and teed off alongside his brother Wesley Bryan.

They failed to capitalize on the chance to its fullest extent, however. George shot 73 and 70 to crash out of the competition. Whereas, Wesley carded 70 and 71 to miss the cut by one stroke.

On the other hand, Dunes Golf & Beach Club also witnessed Blades Brown become the second teenager in as many weeks to make the cut at a PGA Tour event. The 16-year-old carded a brilliant 31 on the back nine, laced with four birdies, to move one shot inside the cutline. In the ongoing third round, the teenager has yet to make a bogey through the 16th hole.

On the other hand, Bill Haas, playing on a sponsor exemption, made this a family affair. The Haas family is synonymous with South Carolina’s golf scene. At Myrtle Beach, the former Tour Champion had his 70-year-old dad, Jay Haas, a ten-time winner on the Tour, on his bag. The 41-year-old, however, missed the cut. You can catch the Myrtle Beach Classic third round live on Golf Channel from 3 PM EDT.
