Jasprit Bumrah is one of the vital cogs of Indian bowling department across formats. While recalling his tough childhood days on Wednesday, Bumrah revealed that he had faced a tough time and he could only afford one pair of shoes and T-shirt. Much before he became the renowned pacer of India, he had to go through a tough time after loosing his father at the age of five.
The 25-year-old speedstar is currently out of play and has been ruled out from the ongoing series due to a stress fracture on his lower back. His mother Daljit Bumrah has recalled those days of struggle in a recent video tweeted by Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.
“When he was five-year-old, I lost my husband,” recalled Daljit Bumrah.
The India cricketer then shared, “After that we couldn’t afford anything. I had one pair of shoes. I used to have one pair of T-shirt. I used to wash them every day and use it again and again.”
“So, as a child you know you hear stories that sometimes these things happen that some people come and watch you and you get picked up like this. But it actually happened,” he further added.
Jasprit Bumrah burst into the cricket circuit at the Indian Premier League in 2013 and within no time becamea household name. With his pace, accurate length and yorker, it took only six years for him to become world’s number one ranked ODI bowler.
“The first time when I saw him on that IPL match on TV, I couldn’t stop crying. He has seen me struggle financially and physically also,” Daljit, the pacer’s mother recalled.
The Gujarat pace bowler, who is currently in London for his injury treatment, said, “All these tough times make you strong because you’ve seen tougher days before.” However, it is expected that Bumrah will soon get back to action.
