Conor McGregor will finally return to octagon after a year long hiatus. The two-division champion will square off against UFC veteran Cowboy Cerrone on Jan 19. at UFC 246 inside T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. The fight will also mark Conor’s return to the welterweight division.
Ever since UFC made official that McGregor will return to the octagon, MMA fans started anticipating a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor’s return to the welterweight division shocked many fans, but it doesn’t necessarily negate the potential for a rematch with Khabib for the UFC gold. Khabib has repeatedly shot down any possibility of a rematch. However, Conor looks confident that he will face Khabib for the UFClightweight championship soon.
In the build-up to Conor vs. Cerrone, McGregor appeared alongside Oscar Willis of TheMacLife. He discussed his upcoming fight against Cerrone. He also responded to Dana White’s plan for a rematch with Khabib if he can win against Cerrone. Here’s what Conor had to say,
“He is trembling. That man is trembling. He doesn’t want it. You know you get it. He’s trying not to lose it again.”
It’s not a shocking reply considering Khabib has repeatedly ridiculed McGregor’s long absence from the octagon. McGregor called Khabib scared for not agreeing for a rematch. He added,
“I just smell shit, that’s all it is. He’s afraid and that’s it but everyone wants it. The boss wants it, Dana wants it, we all want it. So he can run but he cannot hide.”
What’s next for Conor McGregor?
Conor McGregor seems to be in the perfect shape going forward in his welterweight debut. Cerrone is a stylistic match-up for Conor. It will be interesting to know if Conor possesses the same punching power after the weight jump. McGregor’s lethal hand will play a vital part in the first few rounds of the fight. Cerrone will have a considerable amount of experience if the match goes into the later rounds. McGregor’s lack of experience at the welterweight division will significantly help Cerrone.
Conor also targeted Masvidal, Justin Gethje and showed keen interest in the welterweight championship match against Kamaru Usman. McGregor’s 2020 season looks incredible.

I low-key like Dana White and his decisions, but that doesn't mean I am not a fan of super fights. Always up for a chat related to UFC, I am a passionate filmmaker.
