Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have shared the last 13 Grand Slam titles between them. Stan Wawrinka was the last player to break the stronghold at the 2016 US Open. The legendary trio has conquered 56 of the last 67 majors after Federer’s first one in 2003.

“Novak at his peak is the greatest player ever”: Marin Cilic

The 2014 US Open champion considers Novak Djokovic as the greatest player ever. He believes that Federer and Nadal will be behind the Serbian as he has the best chance of finishing a career with most Grand Slams titles in his bag.

Novak Djokovic helped Serbia clinch the inaugural ATP Cup 2020 before he claimed his 17th major title at the Australian Open 2020. The 32-year-old also won his fifth Dubai Tennis Championships last month after extending his perfect start to 2020.

The world number one is currently 18-0 this year. He stands third in the all-time major winner list with 17 titles behind Nadal (19) and Federer (20). However, the Croat believes that he is the greatest of all time with ‘barely any holes’ in his game.

“Novak Djokovic hasn’t lost a match this season; he is the favourite in Indian Wells as well. For me, Novak at his peak is the greatest player ever, the one with incredible tennis and barely any holes in his game,” Cilic said in an interview with Tennis World.

“I believe that Djokovic has the best chance”: Cilic

After a blistering start to the 2020 season, Djokovic seems to be determined to add more titles to his trophy haul. He looks to sweep past everything that comes his way to the title. The World No.1 will certainly aim to continue his impressive unbeaten run.

“He will be motivated to maintain this level and beat Nadal in the world no.1 battle. I believe that Djokovic has the best chances to finish a career with most Majors, he is not that far behind Federer, he is also healthy and there’s a great team around him,” he added.

“He could play on a high level for four, five or six years and he is in the best position to win most Major titles,” Cilic concluded.

Djokovic certainly looks invincible and is indisputably capable of winning more Grand Slam titles than his arch-rivals. He is also the youngest of the trio. Hence, he might have the best chance of going to the top of the career Grand Slam win list, potentially after Nadal and Federer have retired.
