Losing sanity on the field isn’t a rare incident. It happens quite often that sportsmen get involved in heated arguments during their matches. Such a thing happened again on Sunday at the UTS. Greek athlete Stefanos Tsitsipas and French player Corentin Moutet lost their temper during their game.

Stefanos Tsitsipas isn’t surprised

Moutet appeared to be extremely frustrated as his lead in the game slowly disappeared. It seemed that the French thought Apostolos Tsitsipas, Stefanos’ father and coach, influenced the game. During the second quarter, Moutet remarked at Apostolos after the latter “encouraged” his son to opt for the UTS “Winners Count 3” card while the score was tied 7-7. The 21-year old French asked, “Excuse me? Who is choosing the cards, the player, or the coach? Do you want to play?”

The worse part came just before the sudden death round, when Moutet went on to call Stefanos’ father “stupid”. Later when the match ended, Tsitsipas told Tennis Majors that he wasn’t surprised to see his French contender flaring up.

The 21-year old said, “With him, it’s not really unusual. I’ve known him since he was eight years old, it has always been this way. Once we had a European junior championships final where he left the court in the middle of a match because of referee issues so it was not unusual for me. It’s UTS, you have to enjoy. I feel like he’s making it way too dramatic for what it is but it’s his choice. He can do whatever he likes, but at the end, he’s going to pay for it.” 

Unforgettable clash

Although Moutet clarified later that he didn’t mean anything bad about his opponent, the comments that he made on the camera will seldom be forgotten. It seems Tsitsipas would be eager to face the Frenchman in a major tournament later down the line. And that time, he would want to take revenge of this undesirable incident by beating him. However, Stefanos Tsitsipas has already taken some revenge when he beat Moutet and secured his spot in the final four of the UTS.
