Animal Crossing: New Horizons has garnered immense popularity due to its immersive yet straightforward gameplay. The life simulation game takes place in real-time and closely resembles real-world occurrences like seasons and weather. Just like the real world, the game has a Northern Hemisphere and a Southern Hemisphere, and players have to choose one for their islands.

The in-game seasons begin to shift in June, and players get to experience many changes. A bunch of new bugs and fish are available to catch and players can also collect summer shells to craft seasonal DIY recipes. Additionally, a natural phenomenon occurs too. Players have the opportunity to witness the polar lights or auroras.

How to watch auroras in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

Auroras occur exclusively during the winter months, and spotting one is pretty rare. Players with islands in the Northern Hemisphere experience the winter season from December to February. For those with islands in the Southern Hemisphere, winter lasts from June to August, and currently, they can spot the rare phenomenon. However, players in the Northern Hemisphere can utilize time travel to witness a digital aurora in the game.

Players have to play the game during the nighttime to spot an Aurora Borealis or an Aurora Australis, depending on the hemisphere. To be more specific, auroras can occur anytime after 7 pm and before sunrise. These visual phenomena appear randomly, but there are more chances of one happening during possible meteor shower patterns in the game. Auroras don’t exist for a long time, typically lasting for two hours at the most before fading.

So, if you are playing the game after 7 pm, during the winter months, keep checking the sky. You might come across an aurora. If you are lucky enough to spot one, make sure to open your camera on your NookPhone, and click pictures. These visual occurrences are in-game weather elements and don’t influence the gameplay in any way. The views are enchanting, nevertheless.
