“I Keep Simulating all Types of Match Situations in Practice.” – Jasprit Bumrah on his Ethos to Success

Jasprit Bumrah, who has fast tracked his way into becoming India’s premier fast bowler has accredited the work put in practice sessions for his success. “A lot of preparation,” is what Bumrah said when asked about his ability to bowl different kinds of balls under pressure.

He further elaborated,” whenever I practice in the nets, I practice each and every situation. So, if I’ve ticked all the boxes in the nets, in the match it is all about execution and keeping a clear head.” Jasprit Bumrah, a death over specialist with a lethal Yorker said,

“It’s like any other ball,” when asked about his confidence in bowling Yorkers at any situation in the game. He also said, “I do it again and again and again in the nets. So, the more you do it, you get decent at it. You can’t master it. You’re still trying to get better at it, yeah. It’s all about repetition,” emphasizing on preparation and work ethics again.

Bumrah is one wicket short of making 100 ODI wickets after playing 56 matches. He also maintains an excellent economy of 4.52 despite bowling a fair share of his overs towards the end of the innings. He is now among the best bowlers in the World and is ranked no. 1 in the ODI rankings for bowlers. He is also a key member of the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians helping them win the latest edition of the mega tournament.

Yet he was humble enough to say, “I don’t think I’ve become an experienced player that I could say I don’t want to play some games,” when asked if he would rest for the final league match against Sri Lanka ahead of the semi-finals. He was also enthusiastic about his first World Cup and stated that he would like to play as many games as possible.

The Mumbai Indians fast bowler also said that he likes to make his own decisions while bowling. When asked about his role in the on-field decision making among people like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah said,” I like to make my own decisions. In that, I am also involved in the game, and I have a clear plan. If I have the confidence to execute something, I tell that to the captain or the senior players that I think this would work and this could work according to my bowling.”

Bumrah has been hugely influential in this World Cup with 14 wickets in half as many matches at an average of 21.07.
