ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: 5 Biggest Sixes of The Tournament

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 has seen its new World Champion after 23 years where the hosts England won their maiden title at Lord’s on Sunday, July 14. The tournament has witnessed many high scoring as well as low scoring games, including sixes. More than 350 sixes were hit in the tournament from the players like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Aaron Finch, Jason Roy, Rohit Sharma, David Warner etc.

England captain Eoin Morgan has been leading the chart of scoring most sixes. He smashed 22 sixes, Australia captain Aaron Finch is the next with 18, Rohit Sharma hit 14. Jason Roy and Chris Gayle are the next with 12 sixes. Some of the sixes were even crossed 100 meters.

West Indies captain Jason Holder hit the biggest six of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. It was a huge six of 105-meter which came in the game against Bangladesh off Mashrafe Mortaza over wide long-on. He played a quickfire knock of 33 off 15 and took his side to 321 for 8 in 50 overs. However, Bangladesh won the game with ease.

Shimron Hetmyer is the second in the chart who hit the second-biggest six of the tournament. Despite having a not-so-good tournament, he hit a couple of big shots, including one against Bangladesh. His blitzy 26-ball 50 included three big sixes and one-off them came off Mosaddek Hossain which was 104-meter and went over mid-wicket. Although Bangladesh won the game by seven wickets, Hetmyer’s knock was crucial for his side.

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is known for his big-hitting. He can hit big sixes with ease. He was in a formidable form during the Indian Premier League before the ICC World Cup, although he had a rather forgettable World Cup and later has been ruled out due to injury.

However, he hit a 103-meter six off Adam Zampa over the long-on during their game against Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. His six became the third-biggest in the list. Australia, however, won the game by 15 runs where he managed to score mere 15 off 10.

The fourth-biggest six was hit by Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah Riyad in the World Cup against Australia. That was a high scoring game where Mahmudullah played a crucial knock of 69. The maximum came when he slog-swept Pat Cummins’ slow delivery over deep mid-wicket which was 98 meter.

After having started the ICC World Cup campaign with a convincing win over Pakistan, West Indies didn’t have a great tournament. They managed to win mere two games out of nine and finished at ninth in the points table.

However, their dangerous opener Chris Gayle 12 sixes in the tournament. Their game against New Zealand turned out to be a nail-biting one where they nearly took the game to the finish line where they hit 13 sixes out of 17. Gayle scored a brilliant 87 where he hit a six in the 8th over off Matt Henry over the long-on which went for 98-meter.
