The span of 48 days of exciting and quality cricket is set at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is set to start from May 30. The 12th edition of the quadrennial event will take place in England and Wales.

West Indies hasn’t been the best of the teams in cricket lately. However, West Indies has won a couple of World Cups in the 90s. The Caribbeans won two consecutive world cups in 1975 and 1979. It looked like West Indies would make a hat trick of World Cups in the 1983 ICC World Cup but India defeated the Caribbeans to conquer their first world cup.

After the 1983 World Cup, West Indies never reached the semifinal of the event only once that is in 1996. Due to the poor form, the Carribean side had to play the qualifying to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. In the 2015 edition of the ICC World Cup, West Indies was defeated in the quarterfinals.

The side has lost its form over the years and the poor form continues for the Caribbeans. They lost the 3 match ODI series 2-1 against Bangladesh in December last year. However, they showed some hopes when they faced England in a home series. The 5 match ODI series resulted in a 2-2 draw. West Indies next played the tri-series with Ireland and Bangladesh.

The team was impressive, however, they lost the finals against Bangladesh. Though the Caribbeans have failed to perform at the bigger stages they conquered the 2016 T20 World Cup. The Windies players were also impressive in the IPL 2019. It will be interesting to see how the team performs in the longer format of the game.
