With two double hundreds in four matches, Mayank Agarwal has jumped up in the ICC Test player rankings.
Agarwal scored 243 runs in the first Test match against Bangladesh, earning him man of the match award in India’s innings and 130-run victory. The performance took him into just one spot from the Top 10 Test batsman.
After just eight test matches, Agarwal has 858 runs to his name. There are only seven players to have scored more runs than him in their first eight Tests – Don Bradman (1210), Everton Weekes (968), Sunil Gavaskar (938), Mark Taylor (906), George Headley (904), Frank Worrell (890) and Herbert Sutcliffe (872).
The 858 runs got him 691 rating points in the ICC rankings, placing him 11th, 10 points behind his opening partner Rohit Sharma.
The batting rankings are still topped by Australia’s Steve Smith followed by Virat Kohli, who was dismissed for a duck in the Test match against Bangladesh. Three more Indians apart from the captain feature in the top 10 rankings- Cheteshwar Pujara (4th), Ajinkya Rahane (5th) and Rohit Sharma (10th).
As for the bowling rankings, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami joined Jasprit Bumrah (4th) and Ravi Ashwin (10th) in the Top 10 bowlers.]
Shami recorded bowling figures of three for 27 and four for 31 in the first test match against Bangladesh, lifting him eight places to seventh position. His overall rating points of 790 are the third best for an India pace bowler after Kapil Dev (877) and Jasprit Bumrah (832).
