New Zealand registered a convincing win over Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2019 at The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton where Afghanistan managed to put up a mere 172 before they bowled out within 41.1 overs. New Zealand reached the target within 32.1 overs with easy with the loss of 3 wickets. The fight could be tougher if Afghanistan’s key bowler Rashid Khan would be able to take the field.

Rashid Khan was not able to bowl against New Zealand as he got struck on the head by a deadly delivery of Lockie Ferguson while batting in the 34th over. He misjudged the ball and got ducked, thinking it was a shorter delivery which collided into his helmet as he turned his head. As a result, Rashid dismissed for a duck.

The after effect was a bit scary as Rashid Khan looked a bit disorientated. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson rushed to the batsman while he was walking back, who both plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Afghanistan’s physio checked him well on the pitch before taking him to the pavilion.

The mystery spinner, Rashid did not take the field when New Zealand were chasing the total and it is still not clear whether he took the concussion test or he was simply kept out of action as a precaution. Although, it’s expected that the injury is not that much serious as their captain Gulbadin Naib said after the match that Rashid was fine and he will be kept under observation and will be checked by the doctor on Sunday.

Afghanistan will play their next game next Saturday, against South Africa in Cardiff, which will give the bowler some time to recover and the captain, Naib said he expected his key player to be fit for their next clash.
