The ongoing 1st Test between India and South Africa has been news since its beginning – be it Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal’s stunning centuries or Cheteshwar Pujara abused by Rohit Sharma when he refused to take a single. The incident took place during the fourth day of the ongoing Test in Visakhapatnam which was heard on the stump mic.
It all happened on the second ball of the 26th over when Sharma hit it towards the cover-point off Dane Piedt. Sharma was about to take a single but he had to return to his end after Pujara refused to take the single.
“Puji [Cheteshwar Pujara], bhaag behanc**d,” Rohit Sharma was heard on the stump mic. His words came more as a frustration as Pujara was scoring at a pretty slow pace.
Pujara, who walked in to bat at No. 3 in the ninth over, took time to set his eyes. Before the incident happened, Pujara had scored 8* off 61. While it was not unusual in Tests but the situation needed him to bat quickly to give India a better position of winning the Test match.
However, after the incident, Pujara started scoring pretty quickly. He started dealing with boundaries off Piedt. In the next two overs bowled by South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj, Pujara smashed him as well before eventually hitting Piedt for a maximum over deep mid-wicket.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
After the incident, alongside fans, England all-rounder Ben Stokes too trolled. Ben Stokes took to Twitter and came up with a funny post: “This time it’s Rohit not Virat….if you know you know.”
However, India declared after scoring 323 for 4 wickets in 67 overs. Rohit Sharma once again scored a century and Pujara ended up scoring 81 off 148. While chasing, South Africa opener Dean Elgar fell very cheaply as Ravindra Jadeja trapped him before the stumps for mere 2. The visitors need 384 runs to win with 9 wickets and one full day in their hand.
